On November 28th, SISN hosted its second live webinar entitled “Why Invest in Implementation Research (IR)?”. SISN Board Member, Dr Gretel Pelto, Graduate Professor, Division of Nutritional Sciences, Cornell University, moderated a panel of three experts who shared their real-world experiences of using IR to great effect in a number of different settings. These panelist presentations included

• Dr Eva Monterrosa, Senior Scientific Manager, Sight and Life speaking on “Using stakeholder analysis to examined acceptability and appropriateness of a nutrition policy. An example from Mexico” (pdf of slides)

• Dr Alison Tumilowicz, Senior Technical Specialist in Monitoring, Learning and Research, Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) speaking on “Micronutrient powder (MNP) interventions in Ethiopia and Mozambique: The use of IR in program delivery” (pdf of slides)

• Ms Giulia Baldi, World Food Programme: “The Fill the Nutrient Gap (FNG) Tool: Taking analysis to action to improve nutrition” (pdf of slides)

The 10-minute presentations illustrated how these case studies ‘mapped’ on to the recently published SISN Classification Scheme for IR and were followed by a lively question and answer period.
